Diabetic Education

MercyOne Primghar Medical Center Diabetes Education program assists people with diabetes in developing the knowledge, skills and tools they need to successfully manage their diabetes. Our program is an American Diabetes Association Recognized, State of Iowa and Medicaid certified program. We provide group and individual diabetes education to persons with Type 1, Type 2, and gestational diabetes. Group class is offered monthly in two sessions. Individual sessions are by appointment. We are affiliated with MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center Diabetes Education program. 

Carol Brinkert RN, BAN and Jennifer Lincecum LD, RD are the program staff. Jennifer is a Registered Dietitian who has been providing nutrition counseling to people with diabetes since 1994. Carol is a Registered Nurse with more than with 30 years of nursing experience and has been teaching and counseling people with diabetes since 2000. 

Anyone who has the diagnosis of diabetes is eligible to participate; a physician or mid-level healthcare provider referral is required. The cost of Diabetes Education is covered by Medicare if the person has a qualifying diagnosis. Most commercial insurance also has benefit for Diabetes Education. If you think you could benefit from Diabetes Education, please discuss this with your physician.
